Friday June 6th was another great show at I-96 Speedway. The featured class of the evening was the Hubbco Race Products IMCA Modifieds as they would do battle for the Fast Shafts All Star Qualifier.
The always competitive UMP Late Model Feature would showcase the usual suspects mixing it up throughout the race pressuring each other with slide jobs and crossovers all the way through the field. Ultimately, the field could not overcome the always competitive Chad Finleys pole position starting spot as he would go on to visit the Lane Automotive/Allstar Performance Victory Lane. 1st-#42 Chad Finley 2nd-#M14 Brandon Thirlby 3rd-#4 Travis Stemler 4th-#41 “Hotshoe” Mike Vandermark Jr. 5th-#21 Logan Nickerson. Heat races were won by Finley and Stemler.
The featured race of the evening would be the FastShafts Allstar Qualifier for the HUBBCO Race Products IMCA Modifieds featuring the “who's who” in West Michigan dirt track Modified racing. We had comers and goers all throughout the race with heat winner Chase Rosebrugh coming all the way through the field, but nobody could overcome the pole sitter Jeff Reay when the checkered flag finally fell on the field. 1st-#12 Jeff Reay 2nd-#7D Myron Deyoung 3rd-#17 Chase Rosebrugh 4th-#20w “Livewire” AJ Ward 5th-#71 Brenten Deyoung. Heat winners were Ward, #94 Jack Dalman, and Rosebrugh.
Pro Stocks usually comes down to two, sometimes 3, drivers in our pro stock program and this night proved no different as it was either going to be Billy Trueblood Jr. or Mike Husted proving victorious and it was Truebloods night as he was hooked up all race long. 1st-#35 Billy Trueblood Jr. 2nd-#45 Mike Husted 3rd-#06 Jarrett Rendel. Heat race was won by Husted.
We've been pretty pleased with the Street Stock class growing this season as it always proves to be a hyper competitive class with hyper competitive races and that was on full display this Friday Night. Unfortunately, for some of our regulars, the “Hotshoe” was in the house and would not be denied victory, so they would all have to battle for 2nd as Vandermark would cruise to victory by more than 6 seconds over 2nd place. 1st-#00 “Hotshoe” Mike Vandermark Jr. 2nd-#65 Bill Brandt Jr. 3rd-#67 Carlind Forsythe 4th-#17 Michael Roger's 5th-#46 David Schmidt. Heat race winners were Schmidt and Vandermark
The Unrestricted Mini Wedges (10-14) was a stacked class enough drivers to run a B Main, but nobody could overcome the pole sitter, RJ Sternberg, as he proved too strong and too hard to beat. And, bonus to the A main was watching the B Main winner, Austin Fellows, climb from last through the field for a top 5. 1st-#37 “Baby Shark” Robert Sternberg Jr. 2nd-#71k Karsyn Crosby 3rd-#32 Waylon King 4th-#26 Austin Fellows 5th-#42 Matthew Brewer. The B Main was won by Austin Fellows and heats were won by Sternberg, Brewer, and King.
The Restricted Mini Wedge Feature (6-9) had some of the best passing of the night on either track with point leader, Lola Stemler, having to hold off many challengers for the win. 1st-#6 Lola Stemler 2nd-#85 “Wild Child” Axle Smith 3rd-#00 Wyatt Patrick 4th-#H99 Journee Hotchkiss 5th-#39 Grace Shomin.
Heat winners were Stemler and Hotchkiss.
