I-96 Micro Sprints 2008

  • Absolutely NO alcoholic beverages will be consumed by drivers and/or pit crews prior to, or while  competing in an event.  Use, distribution or sale of illegal drugs at any time shall be cause for immediate, indefinite suspension.

    All cars must weigh following qualifying (if applicable) and feature races.

    Any disqualified car will not receive points, or payout. 

    Switching of drivers or cars after qualifying races, or qualifying, will require said car/driver to start main events at the rear of the field.  Points stay with the driver, not the car.

    Drivers meetings will take place prior to any racing and will be conducted by track officials at their designated time and place.

    Personal Safety 

    Helmets – must be aSnell 95 or newer approved, full head/face coverage competition type. 

  • Driving Suits – Minimum two layer, name brand, SFI rated suit or single layer with nomex underwear.  We recommend three layer suits for superior protection.

    Seat Belts – must be securely attached to the car and used at all times.  Metal to metal latches only.  Five (5) point harness, shoulder harness and submarine belt are required.  Belt dates must not be over three (3) years old. 

    Neck Braces – are mandatory.  Must be SFI rated, name brand brace.

    Cage Nets – are required on the side of the cockpit when there is no side headrest present.  This is to help keep things from coming into the car and also to keep a drivers head in the car in the event of an accident.

    Gloves – are mandatory and must be SFI, name brand type.

    Shoes – are mandatory and must be SFI, name brand type.  We recommend the High-top variety or nomex socks under the low cut kind.

    Arm Restraints – are mandatory and must be adjusted to adequately keep drivers hands below the top of roll cage.  Arm restraints are to be positioned on the forearm area for best protection.  Must be SFI rated.

    Hans/Hutchins Device – strongly recommended!

    Vehicle/Driver/Worker Safety 

    Firewall – there must be a  firewall between driver and engine.  We recommend steel or aluminum.

    Bladders – are recommended in the 600 classes, but not required at this time.  Exception:  Any micro sprint running on gasoline must have a bladdered tank.

    On Board Fire Extinguishing Systems – are suggested in the 600 classes.  There are a variety of suppliers and the average cost is around $350.00.  Must be “pull” type activation and pull lever must be mounted on dash or cowl. 

    Electrics and Electronics – On/Off switches must be on dash, cowl or steering wheel and must be connected and functional.

    Battery – must be securely mounted away from driver.

    Brakes – must be of sufficient strength so as to slide the wheels while car is in motion.

    General Car Specifications 

    Roll Cage – must be at least 1” .085 thickness, or 1 1/8” .065 thickness, or 1 ¼” .065 thickness and made of chromoly steel or equivalent.  Roll cage must be a minimum of 3” above driver’s helmet.  All edges must be rounded, no square or pointed edges allowed.  There must be a cross brace installed behind the seat to support the shoulder harness.

    Bumpers – cars must have bumpers extending beyond the front and rear tires.  Nothing may extend beyond a tangent line from the outside edge of tires to the bumpers.  No sharp corners or design as to hook or damage.  Nothing may extend beyond the outside edge of the tires or wheels, whichever is widest.

    Nerf Bars – all cars must be equipped with nerfing bars that do not extend beyond the outside edge of tire or wheel, whichever is widest.

    Tread Width – Maximum tread width is 52”, minimum is 32” from center to center of tires.

    Wheelbase – Maximum wheelbase is 70”, minimum is 50”, center of front axle to center of rear axle.

    Rear Wheel Drive – only.  No front wheel drive cars allowed.

    Bodies – All cars must have complete bodies and be “sprint car” in design.  Bodies must be made of aluminum, metal, fiberglass or high impact plastic.

    Fuel Tanks – All fuel tanks must be equipped with a one way check valve designed to prevent spillage of fuel from the fuel tank vent in the event of a rollover.

    Numbers – All cars must have legible numbers on nose, nose wing (if applicable), each side of tail tank, each side and top of wing.  If track scorers have issue with reading numbers and/or scoring a car, they will promptly advise driver/owner and recommend a temporary solution for the evening.  All cars must have the drivers name somewhere visible on car.

    Ballast – All ballast must be firmly attached as a part of the cars structure and painted with the car number.  No liquid or loose ballast such as water, rocks, sandbags, etc. will be allowed.

    Traction Control Devices – Strictly prohibited in all classes.  They may not even be present, but disconnected.

    Belly Pans – are mandatory from the leading edge of seat up to the throttle/brake mounts and must be sufficient to insure drivers feet will not come into contact with the racing surface itself.  Belly pans must be mounted with dzus fasteners or bolted on.

    Chain Guards –  or Arm Guards are mandatory.  Chain Guards must cover the chain from the furthest front exposed point to the center of rear axle.  They must be of sufficient strength and width so as to protect driver.  Arm guards that prevent a drivers arm from being hit by a chain and are designed to keep a drivers arm inside the car are legal.

    Top Wings – are mandatory.  The only exception will be in the event of a rollover where a replacement wing is unavailable to finish that event.  Wings may not extend beyond the outside edge of rear tires.  All wings must have a rolled edge – no sharp edges.  No wood except for ribs or spars inside center section.  Wing must be installed so as not to obstruct drivers vision regardless of wing position.

    Fuel – Methanol, Ethanol, Gasoline and Racing Gasoline.  Absolutely no performance enhancing additives allowed.  Anyone caught running “hot” fuel will be indefinitely disqualified from the entire series.  Absolutely NO pressurized gases (nitrous, etc.) allowed.

    Transmission – Any type motorcycle transmission is legal.  All shift levers must be located inside the driver’s compartment.

    Radio Communication - is strictly prohibited on the track.

    Rearview Mirrors – are strictly prohibited.

    Chain Driven – All engines must remain chain driven off of the original countershaft.

    Tires/Wheels – any tire and wheel combination may be used, but tires may not exceed twenty-three (23) inches in height.  

    270      - 2 Stroke Class

    Age – Drivers must be at least twelve (12) years of age.  A driver is considered to be 12 if they are 12, or will turn 12 during the race season. 

     Weight – Minimum 600 pounds – car and driver.

     Engine – Any single cylinder two cycle motor no larger than 271cc. 

    Unlimited Modified 600cc Class

    Age – Minimum driver age is fourteen (14) years old.  A driver is considered to be 14 years old if they are 14 any time during the race season.

    Weight -  Minimum car and driver weight is 750 pounds.

    Starter – All engines must have a cockpit operated electric starter, lever manual clutch and on board motorcycle battery capable of starting the engine.

    Engine – any multi cylinder, stock appearing 600cc block and head up to 640cc.

     Competition Rules

    Any driver wishing to advance to a class they are not technically old enough to compete in will first gain the written approval of the track owner and a minimum of three (3) racers in the class requesting to be raced.  All written acknowledgements must include a phone number.

    First caution you cause you will be sent to the tail, second caution you cause you will be black flagged from the track.

    Any arguing or aggressive gesturing towards any track official will suspend you from the nights events.

    Scoring or other discrepancies may be discussed with the appropriate track officials in a polite manner at the end of the races.

    Track officials will check and enforce all rules equally.  Absolutely no “protesting”, track officials rulings are final!  If you see something unsafe, please bring it to tracks attention and we will handle it.

    Rough and aggressive driving (chopping, charging, pushing, etc.) will not be tolerated!  One warning only, if it’s a good night.

    20 total Micro Sprints or less will all run together with the 270’s lined up in front of the 600’s.  Scoring and pay out will be divided by class.  Less than six (6) micros in a class will start tail of the dominate class.  Scoring and payout will remain separate.  Exception will be in the case of driver(s) running “double duty” (both classes), in that case classes will be run separate.

    20 cars will generally start the feature, however the track may, at its discretion, start more than 20
