Ward, Primm, and Nelson get it done at I-96 Speedway

By Lucas Bila:,

Lake Odessa, MI. (July 25, 2009) A nice night of racing was brought to stop around 8:15 and would cause an hour and a half delay while the track crew ran in the 3/8. This rain made the track very tacky and made for some of the best racing of the season. A.J. Ward would bring home the feature win in the Hobby Stock, John Primm in the road beaters, and Nick Nelson in the Mini Sprints Saturday night at I-96 Speedway.
The ½ mile track turned out to be too wet, and racing was postponed on that track for the night.
Aaron Wolf #20Aaron “the lone” Wolf and Ronnie “the Magic Man” Weirs would bring the Hobby Stock Feature to the green flag. Wolf would take the lead and tried to pull away from the field but was interrupted on the first circuit for debris in turn one. Weirs were glad to see this caution as he bobbled and let Wolf get away from him.
Back under green and Weirs stayed attached to Wolf’s bumper. A.J. Ward was making the high side work as he was up to third on the fifth lap after starting eighth. On the very next lap, Ward caught Weirs then went around him and Wolf in turns one and two and never looked back. Weirs and Wolf battled back and forth for the second spot but on lap 13, Weirs made his way by and settled for the second spot. Wolf, Cody Denny, Cort Skoog, Derek Loveland, Hilary Smith, Terry Byrne, Richard Hyvarinen, Steve Piercefield, Ronnie Mathis, and T.J. Sway bar would make up the field. For Ward, it was his fifth trip to victory lane, tying him with Wolf for the most wins this year in all the divisions! Heats were won by Byrne and Ward

John Primm #11John Primm and Ben Fust brought the road beater field to the green flag. Primm, Rob Nieman, and Scott Rumsey would all jump out front and make a great three car battle for the lead. They would set a blistering pace around the track. As soon as the group hit lapped traffic, Primm took advantage of that and would never look back. Primm is making a late season charge, winning his forth feature of the year. Nieman, Rumsey, Terry Henderson, Cole Ruesink, Ben Fust, Terry Henderson, Steve Wawiernia, and Nikki Primm rounded out the top ten. The heat was won by Rumsey
Tucker Erwin would jump into the early lead after taking the green flag next to Nick Nelson. Erwin would set a good pace around the track. Erwin bobbled in turn three and Nick Nelson took the lead away and would go on to win over Erwin, Derek Donaldson, Collin Erwin, Jason Holibaugh, Jay Steinbach, Tyler Luznak, Al Halbert, Mike Pustay, and Cruze Northrup completed the field. The win was Nelson’s second of the year and second in a row. Heat was won by Nelson.
Next week August 1, the S.O.D. sprints cars will make there fourth and final trip to the half mile. Double Features will also be run for the Modifieds as racing on the half mile was cancelled due to the rain. In two weeks, August 8, the Ultimate Champion Late Models will return and run double features for double points.
And do not forget to mark your calendars for August 15, and NASCAR racer, and SPEED TVS Kenny Wallace will be racing his UMP modified on the ½ mile, and may also jump into the I-96 Speedway Ultimate Champion late model.

I-96 speedway is located off of interstate 96 at exit 64. Go south ½ mile, then west one mile to the track.
